The Adult Social Care sector is growing rapidly, not only in Sheffield but across the UK.

Local health and social services want to provide care and support in and across the communities for vulnerable people.

Local authorities are struggling week by week to fill the positions that are required to provide social work to any individuals that need it.

If you are looking for a career in the adult social care sector but don’t have any qualifications or experience, do not worry as there are plenty of entry-level careers that you can pursue, all of which are rewarding and have plenty of room for progression.

We have put together five adult social care careers that require little to no experience or qualifications.

Activities Worker

Activities workers are responsible for organising and running activities for adults with physical or learning disabilities. These activities may be new to the person or something they already enjoy but don’t have the confidence to do. Through patience and encouragement, you can provide them with the confidence and means to do these activities.

Care Worker

Care workers provide care and support services to adults with physical or learning disabilities who need help with day-to-day activities. This can include personal care, such as aiding with washing and dressing, as well as providing emotional support. This type of role is usually provided within the comfort of a person’s house or group home.

 Personal Assistant

Another entry-level career in the adult social care industry is a personal assistant. Personal assistants provide support to adults with physical or learning disabilities in their homes. This can include tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and helping with health care. These individuals may have minor ailments that cause them issues in their day-to-day life.

Shared lives Carer

Shared lives carers provide support to adults with physical or learning disabilities by welcoming them into their own homes. It’s an incredibly flexible role – you’ll be self-employed and there’ll be a set agreement on how much care you provide. Shared lives carers are matched with a person on the basis of shared interests, lifestyles, and of course a sense of humour.

Advocacy Worker

Advocacy workers provide support to adults with physical or learning disabilities in a variety of settings, such as residential homes, supported living schemes, day centres, or schools. They are involved in securing people’s rights, such as accessing services and ensuring that people are involved in their own care and support planning.

If you’re interested in pursuing any of these careers, we suggest doing some further research to see if they’re right for you. Check-out Skills For Care to give you a plethora of knowledge and information regarding these careers.
